On Mondays students from around Weltevreden attend drama classes at the Weltevreden methodist church. This past Monday myself and the Weltevreden parents were treated to some great entertainment :) the drama kids performed amazingly well and we were super proud.

Meet Chane!
Today we meet Chane van Hoeve who is 15 years old and lives Weltevreden park. Chane attends our Randpark Youth Theatre studio on Fridays. Chane's first language is Afrikaans but she is really developing her English so well through performance, reading scripts and discussing various genres and themes-I've really noticed her flourish in the last year and half since she started with us:)
I asked this lovely young lady why she started drama and she said she wanted to occupy herself with an activity and what better way to spend her time than to develop her self-confidence. She said that she was very self-conscious before but since starting drama she feels brave enough to speak without worrying about other peoples judgements! She has found a greater confidence within herself. I asked her why does she continue attending our school and she said " I love laughing and hearing all the creative ideas and learning new ideas from my peers as well as feeling great when I come up within idea!"
I must say that I have loads of students whose second language is English, and I've realized how wonderful and safe this program is as it give the students a wonderful opportunity to make mistakes and learn through laughter.
