Creating a new Perspective!

Last night we opened in a very stormy Joburg west rand! Despite the disastrous weather the show went on and our students performed wonderfully well! Our teenagers from Cliffview brought me to tears with their excellent performance of the Helen O'Grady play 'Perspectives'.
It's amazing what a bunch of grade 7 girls were able to create with a bunch of sticks! They moved the audience to think about some serious issues that as a nation need to address! Their teacher Megan did an outstanding job at directing this physical theatre piece!
Tonight out students from Randpark, Strubensvalley and Blairgowrie will perform at the Roodepoort Theatre-yay!

Dress up costume Days

The Academy has been having such fun dressing up each week. At the start of the term each student received a list of what they need to dress up in each week. By doing this we're teaching our students to research certain eras, people and styles. We have also asked them to get creative at home rather than going out an buying a costume. Our drama students have outdone themselves :) last week was my personal favourite week as it was our 1980s dress up week!!! Take a look at the Randpark students...awesome!!!

Randpark Presentations

Our Randpark studio is extremely popular as the students in this area are committed to their drama lessons and the wonderful benefits of our programme. This term our 9-12 year olds rehearsed really hard and eventually performed for their parents at the end of the term. This bright young group were outstanding... Here is a few pics of our rehearsal process ...
It was all about the City... And we're pretty experienced from living in Gauteng.

Meet Khanya

Meet Khanya Chauke who is 12 years old and has just moved up from our upper primary group into the youth theatre programme.
This lovely young lady has been attending drama classes in Randpark for the 3 years. She said drama helped her become aware of speaking properly and this has helped her improve her speech over the years.

I asked her why she still attends lessons and she said:
"I Carry on cos it's enjoyable and something to do on Fridays instead of staying at home".
Khanya is a pleasure to teach and always gives her all in class, I definitely
Think that she will achieve her dreams of becoming an actress or an entrepreneur-she's already and actress in my eyes and a really good one at that :)

Drama makes us smile!

Every Friday Randpark students go to drama at the Randpark Ridge United Church! Today I asked the children what they like about drama and they said : "its fun!" "we Like Kerry" "theres lots of things to do" "we love going to drama on Fridays" "It lets me be silly" " we love speech"!
As you can see from the pic below drama makes us happy!!!!!!!! I'm the teacher at this class and all I can say is that these kids are amazing and they change my life in every lesson.
