Anyone who does drama knows how much fun it is, not only is it fun but it is also such a special space that is safe for individuals to explore their own creativity!
Whenever I get new students they walk into class like a deer in headlights, super vulnerable and not sure of the unknown...no matter the age from toddlers right through to adults-humans fear the unknown and drama is the unknown for so many people. All I want to do when I see this is give the person a great big hug and say "Don't worry, in 10 minutes you'll forget this anxiety and you'll be rolling around and being crazy with us in no time", obviously I can't just be offering my hugs to everyone, I respect peoples personal space ;) so I just trust the Helen O'Grady system and curriculum that we follow and as true as bob 10 minutes later out once new student is no longer a new student but a part of our safe space and bringing to the class their own energy and creativity! Some of our new students forget that they're apart of the class and stand with great big smiles on their faces watching the other drama students do some amazing improv work.
Its easy to get a student adapting to the drama class, the hard part is convincing them to get there, especially if they have a pre-conceived idea about what we do in our classes...another funny realization, after they've done it is it's nothing like they imagined :) so how do we invite students to come along and try...
free drama lesson for anyone new!!!! So if you or your child is keen to see what we're all about we're offering a free drama lesson to you-just SMS or what'sapp Kerry on 0834102940 to find the closest class to you and we'll set it up!!! I guarantee you won't regret it, it's a super experience!!!
Below is a pic of myself with our amazing adult students...they all started off trying drama to see what it's all about...brave people...and this was a pic of all of us last year before a performance at the Roodepoort Theatre :) like I say any age, anyone should give our classes a go, there's nothing to lose :)
